Anticipated New Beginnings...and Looking Back in Pictures

Well.....Today (16th) marks the beginning of the 32nd month Caleb has officially been a part of our family. As we await baby Anna's arrival, much revisiting of photos, videos, and stories has occurred among the three of us (Mommy, Daddy, and Caleb).

August 16, 2008 (1 hr. old)
According to 2 1/2 year old Caleb (well, internalizing what he's been told about babies), newborns sleep, poop, eat, cry, and need their Soothies (pacifiers). Some other activities that he's mentioned (yet we have to say, "Not right away...") are: reading books, playing with Summit the cat, vacuum, and eat fruit snacks.

March 16, 2009 (7 months old)
One of the ways Caleb wants to help with his new baby sister is to feed her. Yesterday, as he shoveled chicken star soup into his mouth with a spoon, I mentioned to him how well he now uses a spoon...that he used to not even be able to hold one. I said his baby sister would not be able to hold a spoon for a long time...and he proceeded to tell me he would feed her with the spoon. I don't think he can grasp that she will not be needing one for a very long time! Other ways Caleb plans to assist with newborn care: Changing diapers, inserting Soothies, pushing the stoller, holding...

March 16, 2010 (19 months old)
Becoming more verbal over the past year (from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2) has produced many interesting comments that reflect Caleb's continually ticking mind. He has referred to baby Anna being "in her bed" (sleeping inside Mommy). She doesn't need a diaper now because she "poops inside Mommy's belly". Because Caleb is fascinated with cords, a few months ago I told him his belly button used to have a cord attached to it...and it plugged in to me for food. Last week, when he touched his belly button, I said that Anna's button has a cord right now, to which he replied, "She's plugged in." What a brain this closer-to-3-than-2-year old has!

March 16, 2011 (31 months old)
The "big boy" has given his crib and mattress to his soon-to-arrive baby sister. He sleeps between the sheets on his twin mattress (which is on the floor since Caleb had not slept in his toddler bed, by choice, for the past two months..."I sleep on floor" he insisted).
I am hoping that "sharing" his former baby items will not be a problem...we set up the Pack-n-Play with the bassinet, and he replied, "Caleb's Pack-n-Play". We've been trying to remind him how luck he's been to have "new" items...and that his sister will have "used" items (high chair, crib, stroller, etc...) (Though little does he know that about half of his toys, clothes, and gear is second-hand.....but he'll never know that!)
SO.....the countdown continues.....when will Mr. C be able to see the reality of having a newborn enter his world...to stay with us "forever"??
